Journey into Christmas

In 2001, we became grandparents with the arrival of the first two of our three grandsons. Like so many families, we wanted to create Christmas traditions that would become treasured memories for generations.

One December evening, we visited a synchronized Christmas light display at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. As we slowly drove through thousands of lights dancing to our favorite Christmas music, we were captivated by the experience. During that visit, my wife—known to our grandchildren as "Gigi"—looked at me with a smile and said, "Papaw, it's time to upgrade your Christmas Game!"

 

That simple comment started an incredible journey.

 

After discovering that the same lighting technology used in professional displays was available for homeowners, I immersed myself in learning everything I could. What began as a small display has grown over the past five years from 6,000 LED pixel lights to more than 35,000, transforming our yard into a destination for family, friends, and neighbors during the Christmas season.

 

To continue improving, I attended Christmas lighting conferences to learn professional-grade design, animation sequencing, and computer networking. When I realized there wasn't an event like this in Indiana, I decided to create one. Four years ago, we launched the Indiana Christmas Lights Builders Conference. Today, it brings together Christmas lighting enthusiasts from across the Midwest to learn, share ideas, and inspire one another. This past year, 85 builders attended to learn how they can create unforgettable Christmas experiences in their own communities.

 

Now, Evergreen Lights is the next chapter of that journey—a place where families can experience the wonder of Christmas together, create lasting memories, and celebrate the joy, hope, and traditions that make celebrating the birth of Christ and Christmas season so special.
